A homeless man's poor situation is enlightened when he is revealed to be housekeeping a giant spotlight, representing a single star on the night sky.
But then he sucumbs to a tragic accident, which has some dire consequences.

This personally directed short animation was done as a first year project during the course Filmgestaltung 1 at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg.
Due to the scholarship's time constraints, this singular production had to be created entirely within 4 weeks- from the earliest draft to the final render.

From a technical point of view, the short provided the first opportunity to create a CG human character, including facial rigging and dynamic cloth simulation.

As for the personal learning experience and the tight schedule, the animation was kept quite reduced and done at 15 frames per second, emphasizing more on a puppet-like / stop-motion aesthetic.
In addition, subsurface scattering for skin shading, as well as a heavy usage depth & lens effects during compositing undermine the miniaturized, yet surreal look.
